From On‑Air Challenge to Finish‑Line Honor: WIRK Hosts Help Raise $10K for Veterans

Tim Leary and Chelsea Taylor, morning hosts on Hubbard’s WIRK (New Country 103.1)/West Palm Beach recently set a modest goal to raise $5,000 for the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund’s annual “Running for Heroes” 5K.

If that goal was reached, Leary agreed to train and run the 5K — his first in nearly a decade. Well, wouldn’t you know that Tim and Chelsea’s generous listeners wound up DOUBLING that number, raising $10,000 for this most worthy cause!

Fulfilling his part of the challenge, Leary ran the race. But he said something astonishing happened. “Around the 2.5K marker, I was tired and starting to hurt. Then, going into the last quarter-mile turn, I was met by more than a dozen veterans waiting for me. I thought they were there cheering runners on, but they poured onto the trail, surrounded me, locked arms, and ran me across the finish line!” That’s Leary (above, third from left, red mohawk). “I’ve never been so honored and humbled at the same time,” he said. “Thank you to everyone for making this such an amazing event.”

Chelsea added, “It’s amazing that we can put the call out to our listeners time and time again and they always show up-for our station and for our veterans. It’s truly inspiring to be a part of this community.” Video highlights are posted HERE
